THE KANSAS CAPITAL QUILTERS GUILD will present "Fun, Friends and Quilts," its 13th annual quilt show, on Sept. 18 and Sept. 19 at the Woman's Club, 5221 S.W. West Dr., Topeka. The site is near Eighth Street and Fairlawn Road. The show will run from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sept. 18 and from noon to 5 p.m. Sept. 19. The featured quilter at this year's show will be Rose Wiebe Haury. This year's mini-demonstrations will include square-in-a-square, quilt as you go applique, Stack-n-Whack, English paper piecing, stained glass technique, easy Mariner's Compass and others. These demonstrations will be scheduled on the hour from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sept. 18 and from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Sept. 19. For information call Ann Crumpton, (785) 246-0458.
THE LAWRENCE DUPLICATE BRIDGE CLUB'S regular Monday night game was directed by Virginia Seaver. North-South winners were led by Patt Radford and Elizabeth Nice, followed by Larry Bodle and Kent McCullough, Shirlie Vaughn and Sally Taylor, and James Gunn and Harry Shaffer. East-West winners were led by Dave Piro and Zia Anwar, followed by Julia Brooks and Virginia Seaver, Dan and Vera Schultz, and Jo Scannell and Ilse Steinhardt.
VETERANS OF FOREIGN WARS, Alford-Clark Post 852, Lawrence, will conduct special ceremonies to honor POW/MIA week, which runs Sunday through Friday. At 9 a.m. Sunday, a flag-raising is set for the Douglas County Courthouse, 11th and Massachusetts streets. At 6 p.m. Friday, a POW/MIA ceremony at the post home, 138 Ala., is scheduled. This ceremony will conclude with the reading of the POWs and MIAs from Kansas.
