J-W Staff Reports

The Tonganoxie Mirror has new owners.

The newspaper has been purchased by WorldWest Limited Liability Co. of Lawrence. The redesigned newspaper's first edition hit the street Wednesday. The purchase, for undisclosed terms, was completed last week.

"We're excited about growing with the Tonganoxie area," said Dan Simons, co-manager of WorldWest and director of new ventures for the World Co., which owns the Journal-World.

Dolph Simons III, operations manager at the Journal-World and co-manager of WorldWest, said the new publication, including several full-color pages and new local content, would be produced by "a top-notch staff of local people."

"We look forward to publishing a great community newspaper for Tonganoxie," he said.

Tonganoxie natives Cathy Gripka and Lisa Stevens John will lead the staff as editor and news editor, respectively.

The paper, which was founded in 1882, was purchased from Don and Mary Waterman, who had owned it since 1991. After the purchase, The Mirror moved to new offices at 520 E. Fourth in Tonganoxie.

WorldWest publishes other community newspapers in Kansas, Colorado, New Mexico and Arizona.
