Kansas University decided Lawrence High and Free State High couldn't use Allen Fieldhouse for graduation ceremonies due to wretched weather. I was wondering, could you please find out what wretched weather they are referring to?
Tom Hutton, director of the university relations office at Kansas University, said severe thunderstorms accompanied by high winds are common in Kansas during May and June.
He said concern about the safety of Allen Fieldhouse guests during such storms led KU to no longer use the fieldhouse as an alternate site for its own graduation ceremonies.
The Lawrence school district has not requested use of Memorial Stadium for its graduation ceremonies in May 2000, Hutton said. He said stadium renovations would be complete this fall and that the stadium would be available.
