hoop king of 1990s
Kansas University's men's basketball team finished the decade of the 1990s as the country's winningest college program.
Roy Williams' Jayhawks went 286-60 (.827) from 1989-90 through 1998-99. Next is Kentucky at 282-63 (.817), Duke 271-78 (.777), North Carolina 268-77 (.777), Arkansas 260-87 (.749), Connecticut 259-75 (.775), Arizona 256-67 (.793), Utah 250-76 (.767), Cincinnati 246-83 (.748) and UCLA 241-78 (.755). Oklahoma State is tied for 17th at 219-102 (.682).
The Jayhawks not only had most wins but highest win percentage in the decade. KU's .827 win percentage is ahead of runnerup Kentucky .817.

BU women win
Baldwin -- Jessica Walters averaged 6.5 kills and 4.5 digs per game to lead Baker to a Heart of America Conference volleyball win over Evangel on Tuesday night. Baker won 15-8, 15-5, 6-15 and 15-5. Kathy Kern averaged 4.5 kills and Emilee Heffner 13.3 assists for the Wildcats, 4-2.
HINU season tickets
Season tickets are available for all Haskell Indian Nations University football games by calling 749-8459. Fans may also pick up tickets at the HINU football office at Coffin Complex. Haskell will open at home next Monday against Baker University's junior varsity. Kickoff is 7 p.m.
LHS sophs fall, 2-1
Lawrence High's sophomore soccer team fell to SM West, 2-1, on Wednesday at YSI. Josh Haught scored for LHS. Justin Larsen and Doug Nickell were cited for strong play. The Lions, 1-1-1, will travel to Topeka High today for a 4 p.m. game.
Southwest falls, 28-0
Stilwell -- Blue Valley blanked Southwest Junior High, 28-0, in freshman football on Wednesday. Brian Seymour blocked a punt and Chris Laing recovered fumble for Southwest, now 1-1. Next for the Bulldogs is a home game Monday against Shawnee Heights.
Rural bumps Free State
Topeka Washburn Rural knocked off Free State High, 5-1, in C-team boys soccer on Wednesday at FSHS. Adrian Ludwig scored the lone goal for the Firebirds (0-2). Next for Free State is Olathe South on Monday at FSHS.
Correction
Due to an editor's error, the headline on the Ottawa-Tonganoxie soccer game in Wednesday's Journal-World was incorrect. It should have read "Savage's three goals trip Tonganoxie."
