Bicycle stop
leads to drug arrest
A Kansas City, Kan., man who ignored bicycle safety rules found himself in more serious trouble after running from police.
Police arrested Gaylan Charles Horton, 26, after stopping him at 11:35 p.m. Tuesday in the 1700 block of Tennessee. Lawrence Police Sgt. George Wheeler said police stopped Horton because he didn't have a lamp on his bicycle. He then ran and tried to hide in some nearby bushes, Wheeler said.
Police soon found him, and when they searched his pockets, they found a "large amount of cash in one pocket and a plastic bag with three rocks of what we believe to be (crack) cocaine," Wheeler said.
Police arrested Horton on charges of possession of crack cocaine with intent to sell, obstruction of justice and no tax stamp.
He was released from the Douglas County Jail Wednesday, pending results from the Kansas Bureau of Investigation, who will test the items of the bag.
