West blanks Shawnee Heights

Tecumseh -- West defeated Shawnee Heights, 22-0, in eighth grade junior high football on Tuesday. Chris Heath scored on a 15-yard pass from Caleb Harvey. Also, Cole Douglas scored on a 45-yard run and Will Malcolm a 50-yard run. Josh Davis had a two-point conversion run. Douglas caught a two-point pass from Harvey. Douglas and Nick Altieri had interceptions and Tyler Morgan was cited for his defense for West (1-0).

Free State JV wins

Free State High's junior varsity volleyball team defeated Shawnee Mission South, 15-13, 15-8 and SM East, 15-6, 15-11 and fell to SM Miege, 15-11, 15-7, on Tuesday at FSHS. The Firebirds are 5-1.

LHS JV wins one

Olathe -- Lawrence High's junior varsity volleyball team won one of three matches Tuesday at Olathe East. The Lions lost to the Hawks, 15-5, 15-6; were defeated by Olathe South, 15-10, 17-15; and bounced Blue Valley North, 8-15, 15-9, 16-14.

Oskaloosa wins twice

Oskaloosa -- Oskaloosa beat Jefferson North 16-14, 10-15, 15-11; and McLouth, 15-10, 10-15, 15-12 in high school volleyball Tuesday. Jefferson North stopped McLouth, 15-8, 15-2.

Santa Fe Trail rolls

Topeka -- Santa Fe Trail defeated Emporia 15-1, 15-2; Topeka High 15-1, 15-10; and Topeka Washburn Rural 15-5, 13-15, 15-8, in high school volleyball Tuesday at Washburn Rural.

South goes 1-2

Tecumseh -- South opened its ninth-grade volleyball season with a win and two losses at Shawnee Heights on Tuesday. South lost to Ottawa, 15-2, 15-6; and Heights, 15-1, 15-3; but beat Olathe Indian Trail, 15-8, 15-2. South will play host to Olathe Pioneer Trail and Olathe Oregon Trail today.
