To the editor:
THE EMPEROR HAS NO CLOTHES! The school board is buying a building for which we don't have the money. It's not a bargain if you can't afford it. The bonds voted for to build schools are being used in ways not specified in the bond issue. So the projects approved by voters a year ago will be compromised, delayed and postponed, perhaps to yet another bond issue, as occurred for the completion of Prairie Park Elementary. How can another bond issue pass in Lawrence when such actions by the board undermine the voters' decision?
Scott Morgan was not on the school board when the vote was made to take such an action. His school board election campaign was based on a platform of more open communication with constituents, including listening to them. He should not be silenced now in the name of unity.
False unity does not promote good will, it engenders further disunity. Without an appropriate voice of dissent, a "team" loses its creative synergistic potential, quickly becoming ineffective.
Proverbs 19:20 states "Listen to advice and accept instruction, and in the end you will be wise." May the Lawrence school board use such wisdom in correcting past mistakes, not glossing over them with stopped-up ears.
