To the editor:
Damage to boats and docks at the Clinton Marina in October 1998 and April 1999 were a consequence of the wave action from moderately severe storms but primarily due to the high lake level from recent rains which submerged the protective jetty south of the marina. Waves of water easily reached the marina unimpeded by the jetty, and over $100,000 damage to boats and docks occurred in each instance.
The projected construction of a convention center south of the marina and at the west edge of the jetty and providing a road to the site could produce a huge amount of dirt and rock. What better area to place it than to lengthen, heighten, and solidify the jetty?
It is hoped the developer and state of Kansas planners improve Clinton Lake for water recreationists and the marina owner.
