at Perry Lake
A 34-year-old man is feared drowned at Perry Lake after being reported missing Monday afternoon, Jefferson County officials said.
The man, whose name was not released, was reported missing at 4 p.m. by a friend who had been swimming with him and then left to get help, the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office said Monday night.
The feared drowning occurred at the north end of the lake, north of the Ozawkie bridge off Kansas Highway 92, authorities said.
Divers and other rescue personnel from several jurisdictions -- including the sheriff's office, Kansas Wildlife and Parks, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Ozawkie Fire Department, Jefferson County EMS, Jefferson County Emergency Management, District 11 EMS and Fire and Lifestar -- were involved in the search, which was called off at dark and was scheduled to resume this morning.
