Dan Dercher, a rookie from Kansas University, beat the odds.

Bypassed in the NFL draft last spring, Dercher has earned a spot on the San Francisco 49ers 53-man roster.

Dercher, a 6-5, 293-pound offensive tackle, was called "a promising free agent" by 49ers coach Steve Mariucci.

Meanwhile, the St. Louis Rams were expected to waive June Henley, KU's all-time leading rusher, today.

The Rams thought they had released Henley on Sunday after they reached an injury settlement, but they had to reinstate Henley because of a clerical error.

Henley has been sidelined since July 31 with a severe turf-toe injury

"We are not able to predict the exact time when June will return to full health and get back to work as a football player," coach Dick Vermeil said. "We were counting on June. It's just one of those things. Last year, June was the guy that stayed healthy the entire training camp and therefore made the football team."

Here is a list of the former KU football players currently on NFL rosters:

Indianapolis Colts -- DB Tony Blevins.

Arizona Cardinals -- DB Kwamie Lassiter.

Washington Redskins -- DT Dana Stubblefield.

Cincinnati Bengals -- OG Rod Jones.

Tennessee Titans -- WR Isaac Byrd.

Tampa Bay Bucs -- LB Don Davis.

Green Bay Packers -- NT Gilbert Brown.

Denver Broncos -- OG Chris Banks.

Atlanta Falcons -- DB Gerald McBurrows.

San Francisco 49ers -- OL Dan Dercher.
