Melvin "Cotton" Goff, well-known local car salesman here, died at his home at the age of 62. He was a World War I veteran and had been a car salesman here for 40 years. He was a frequent visitor to Kansas University football practices and was extremely amused one night when the coaching staff, unaware of his Lawrence and KU pedigree, had him investigated as a "spy" from an opposing college camp after he had been spotted near the practice field.
