On Sept. 6, 1899, the Lawrence World commented: "The announcement in the World yesterday that a nail mill would be started in this city again is good news. The movement has back of it men who understand the manufacture of nails and the management of the business in all its details. The whistle will soon be sounded over an important industrial plant once more in this city and the loss of other mill will soon be overcome. Lawrence is too good a town to allow a little thing like a trust to embarrass her long." In the spring of 1899 the Consolidated Barbed Wire factory in Lawrence had been closed by an outside barbed wire firm.
