Prairie dog hunt

fairly successful

Blair Flynn of Overbrook reports prairie dog hunting has been difficult this summer in Ness County.

The heat has kept them mostly underground and when they do surface they're shielded by the tall prairie grasses.

Nevertheless, Flynn reported he managed to kill 276 prairie dogs during the week of Aug. 23-27, nailing about 75 percent of his targets.

Hillsdale winners

Mike Edrington of Shawnee and Matt Wolf of Overland Park caught two bass that weighed 5.96 pounds and won the Wednesday Night Bass Anglers tournament on Aug. 25 at Hillsdale Lake. Ken Sloan of Hillsdale and Jeff Stout of Shawnee placed second and caught the big bass, which weighed 4.90 pounds.

Tourney filming

The Outdoor Channel will film the final Kansas Division State tournament next Saturday at Clinton Lake. The weigh-in and awards presentation will be at Clinton State Park launch site at 2 p.m. The tourney and weigh-in will be aired sometime early next year on the cable channel.
