Firebirds' JV tumbles
Olathe North defeated Free State High, 28-6, in the junior varsity football opener for both teams Saturday at Free State. Frankie Nowola scored on a 23-yard run for Free State. The Firebirds will play at Olathe South next Saturday.
SM North JV nips LHS
Overland Park -- Shawnee Mission North dumped Lawrence High, 13-6, in junior varsity football on Saturday at SM North. Devon McAnderson connected with Damon Benitez on a five-yard pass play for the Lions' lone score. Lawrence's Mark Jones was cited for his defense. Next for LHS is a road game Sept. 18 at Shawnee Mission West.
