CELEBRATING A CULTURE
Several events are planned in conjunction with the 11th Annual Indian Arts Show. Here's a list of those events:
- "11th Annual Indian Arts Show: A Juried Competition," an exhibition of artwork by American Indian artists, Saturday through Oct. 24, Museum of Anthropology, Kansas University. Benefit opening, including an awards ceremony, art preview and sale, reception and silent auction, 7:30 p.m.-9:30 p.m. Friday; reservations required.
- Haskell Indian Art Market, 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Sept. 12, Haskell Indian Nations University.
- Acoma pottery making workshop, with Dolores Lewis Garcia and Emma Lewis Mitchell, Sept. 14-18, Haskell Indian Nations University.
- "Navajo Weaving: A Traditional Teaching Tool," exhibition of textile arts by artist-in-residence Kalley Keams, Friday-Oct. 8, Lawrence Arts Center, 200 W. Ninth. Artist reception, 7 p.m.-9 p.m. Sept. 18.
- "Personal Choices: American Indian Art from a Private Collection," Saturday-Oct. 24, Helen Foresman Spencer Museum of Art, Kansas University.
