Dr. John Bradley of Bradley Animal Hospital recently attended the Veterinary Medical Forum in Chicago.

  • Ron King, a local agent for American Family Insurance, recently attended an Agent Growth Seminar in Madison, Wis. King also was named Agent of the Month for August, based on All Lines Production.

  • Jes Santaularia, a Kansas University graduate, is the new chief executive officer for Cornerstone Development Corp., a Dallas-based developer of office, self-storage, industrial and multifamily properties in Texas, Missouri, Florida, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Louisiana and Tennessee. Santaularia, a certified public accountant and financial planner, lived in Kansas for 30 years and had been an active developer of self-storage and multiuse properties in the Kansas City metro area and southwest Florida.

  • Jane E. Chandler has joined the Kansas Voice Center of Lawrence Otolaryngology Associates as a speech-language pathologist specializing in vocal care and voice disorders.

  • Don and Shirley Grantham, owners of Pro-Print Inc. locations in Lawrence and Topeka, chaired the PrintImage International annual meeting and exhibition July 22-24 in Rosemont, Ill. More than 400 people attended the session, considered a premier event for North American copy shops, quick printers and small-format commercial printers.

  • Robert P. McDivitt, a Lawrence resident, is the new chief of operations for the VA Eastern Kansas Health Care System, which includes Dwight D. Eisenhower VA Medical Center in Leavenworth and Colmery-O'Neil VA Medical Center in Topeka. McDivitt has worked for the Veterans Administration in various capacities since 1981, including the past four years as associate director for the VA medical center in Leavenworth.

  • LaGarde Inc., an e-commerce software development firm that recently relocated from Topeka to Lawrence, has added six employees to its work force near 15th Street and Wakarusa Drive: Donald King, chief technology officer; Dan Lawrence, support technician; Robert Stewart, Web application developer/network manager; Sarah Fender, marketing/communications coordinator; Jennifer Craft, marketing associate; and Rachelle White, office administrator.

  • ProSoCo Inc., a Kansas-based manufacturer of cleaning and protective compounds for masonry, stone and concrete, announced three staff additions: Scott A. Walters, chief chemist; Ann Raw, customer service representative; and Bob Sanderson, quality control manager. The company, now in Kansas City, Kan., is preparing to relocate into a new plant in the East Hills Business Park.

  • Einstein Bros. Bagels has promoted Greg Gillahan to district manager, with responsibility for seven locations in the Kansas City metro area, including two in Lawrence. Gillahan, who lives in Kearney, Mo., has worked for the company for three years, including the past two as manager of its shop on Barry Road.

Awards and honors

Heritage Tractor Inc. of Baldwin recently received the Golden Pride Award for 1999 from Land Pride, a division of Great Plains Manufacturing Inc. The award -- the most prestigious honor presented by Land Pride, a Salina-based manufacturer -- recognized Heritage Tractor for "outstanding achievements in sales and customer service."

  • Security Benefit Group, a Topeka-based financial services company, is among the "100 Best Companies for Working Mothers," as rated in the October issue of Working Mother magazine. Security Benefit, the only Kansas-based company on the list, rated high for its on-site child care, flexible work arrangements, on-site health clinic and comprehensive benefits package.

  • The city of Lawrence's Housing and Neighborhood Development Department recently won the John J. Gunther Blue Ribbon Best Practices Award from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) for its information-management capabilities as it works with HUD's online computer software.

  • Christopher Williams, an agent for the Prudential agency in Lawrence, is among a select number of "top-performing" sales agents from across the country who qualified to attend the company's President's Conference in San Diego.

  • TradeNet Publishing Inc. of Gardner received a Gold Award in the 1999 PPAI Supplier Web Award Program from Promotional Products Association International and announced during the group's 1999 Promotions West show in Las Vegas. TradeNet was recognized for the creativity and marketing effectiveness of its Web site, www.tradenetpublishing.com, which features products used in the promotional products industry.

Tenants to Homeowners Inc. will present a First Time Homebuyers' Workshop from 9:45 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at the United Way Center, Meeting Room A, 2518 Ridge Ct. The four-part workshop will cover: the decision of buying a house, the mortgage process, personal budgeting and home maintenance. Alan Bowes, of Tenants to Homeowners, will serve as facilitator, while Mary Grob of Douglas County Bank will be a presenter. The workshop is sponsored by Tenants to Homeowners, the city's Housing and Neighborhood Development Department and a local lenders committee.

  • The Mid-America Manufacturing Technology Center (MAMTC) will present a seminar, "How to Tighten Controls on Production Costs," from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Sept. 14 at MAMTC's Kansas City office, 1575 N. Universal Ave., Suite 130, Lakeside Plaza I.   • Johnson County Community College is offering free informal sessions -- "Understanding Options in the Computer Field" -- intended for people interested in computer jobs but mystified by the terminology and variety of options involved.   • The Internal Revenue Service, in cooperation with the Small Business Development Center at Washburn University in Topeka, will conduct a small business workshop from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sept. 14 in room 118 of Henderson Learning Center at Washburn. The workshop is designed for new owners of small businesses or anyone considering opening such a business. Among the topics to be covered: starting a business, record keeping, business use of the home, depreciation and federal tax reporting requirements.

  • A homebuyer workshop, co-sponsored by Housing & Credit Counseling Inc. (HCCI) and the Federal Home Loan Bank, will be conducted from 5:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Wednesday at the American Legion Hall in Baldwin.   • "Financial Planning: The State of the Art," a national video teleconference, will be broadcast live to more than 200 sites from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Sept. 15. The conference -- sponsored by the Society of Financial Service Professionals and the International Association of Financial Planning -- will focus on late-breaking news reports and other cutting-edge information affecting the financial service industry. It will be shown live at Fort Scott Community College, Fort Scott, and the Kansas Farm Bureau office in Manhattan. Four information systems courses are being offered this fall by Kansas State University via the World Wide Web. Offered through K-State's Division of Continuing Education, the courses not only offer individuals opportunities to gain professional updating but also may apply toward a college degree.
