CHIEFS CLOSE ON CHARGERS AT PRESS TIME

— Rashaan Sheehe scored on two five-yard touchdown runs in the third quarter and Mike Cloud recorded his first preseason touchdown in the fourth as the Kansas City Chiefs tried to rally past the San Diego Chargers in the NFL preseason finale for both teams early this morning.

At press time, the Chiefs trailed, 27-24, in the fourth quarter.

Though Pete Stoyanovich booted a 28-yard field goal to give the Chiefs a 3-0 lead in the first quarter, the Chargers reeled off four straight scores -- three touchdowns and a field goal -- to lead, 24-3, at the half.

San Diego took a 7-3 lead on a five-yard pass from Jim Harbaugh to Freddie Jones in the first quarter

Natrone Means scored on a two-yard run to make it 14-3. Then Junior Seau caught a 37-yard TD pass from Harbaugh to make it 21-3. John Carney made it 24-3 with a 34-yard field goal before intermission.

After Sheehe's two TD runs, Carney booted a 33-yard field goal to make it 27-17.

Cloud bulled in for a three-yard TD to make it 27-24 with 11:43 left.
