Hickman Earns Jacket: Marge Hickman of Lawrence finished her 11th Leadville Trail 100-Mile Run last weekend in Colorado and earned a jacket for the achievement. Hickman was fourth in her age group and 12th among all women in a time of 28 hours and 40 minutes.

City Deadlines: Registration deadline for city volleyball leagues is next Wednesday and the deadline for city basketball leagues is Sept. 22. For information, call 832-7922.

  • Officials needed: Bob Stanclift, city adult sports supervisor, is looking for volleyball and basketball officials. Training sessions are provided and required. For information, call 832-7922.

  • Spray Captures Race: Larry Spray of Lawrence finished first in the masters men category at the Missouri Fat Tire Series race last weekend in Warrensburg. Lawrence's Bryce Lawrence and Brent Brueneger were third in expert men and sport men 25-34 respectively. Doug Plummer was fifth in expert men.

  • Kindlesparger Shines: Jon Kindlesparger fired a 69 for low gross score in the Jayhawk Golf Club tournament last Sunday at Alvamar. Kindlesparger was also low in net with a 67. John Shafer and Roger Gemeinhardt tied for second with 74s while Paul Nelson and Mike Naegele carded 75s. Keith Wallace was runner-up in net with a 69.

  • YABA Sign-Ups: Lawrence Young America Bowling Alliance will conduct sign-up sessions from 9-11 a.m. on Saturday and from 6-8 p.m. next Wednesday at Royal Crest Lanes. League play will begin on Sept. 11. YABA is open to ages 3 through 21. For information, call Mike Miller at 864-5626.

  • Gregory Finishes: Danny Gregory of Lawrence finished the Leadville Trail 100 mountain bike race on Aug. 14 in Leadville, Colo., in a time of 11 hours and seven minutes.

  • Bartz Hole-In-One: Gary Bartz of Lawrence used a five-wood to ace the par three, 172-yard No. 7 hole at Overland Park Brookridge CC on Monday. Witnesses were Larry Bartz, Bob Clemons and Larry Sinks.

  • Force U-10 Goes 1-1: Kaw Valley Force U-10 boys opened last week with a 7-1 win over KC Avellino and a 6-2 loss to KC Attack. Taylor Bussinger, Greg Glatz, Brian Sims and John Wilson scored goals. Goalkeepers were Skylar Buttermore and Justin Ziegler.

  • Heitzman Takes Two Golds: Paul Heitzman of Eudora won two gold medals and one silver at the National Masters track and field championships in Orlando, Fla. In the ages 65-69 category, Heitzman won the 800 in 2:35 and the 1,500 in 5:17. He was second in the 5,000 in 20:20.

  • Schmidtberger Ace: Evelyn Schmidtberger used a 9-iron to make a hole-in-one on the No. 12 hole at Alvamar. It was Schmidtberger's second ace this summer. Witnesses were Beebe Huxtable and Clarris Broz.

  • Force U-16 Girls Romp: Kaw Valley Force U-16 girls soccer clipped the KC Panthers, 8-3, last weekend. Karah Roelofs had three goals and Celese Seibert two. Also scoring were Jennifer Nickell, Lena Fox and Aly Barland.

  • Harjo Nationals-Bound: Lawrence's Scotty Harjo will participate in three track and field events, bowling doubles and on volleyball, basketball and softball teams at the National Senior Games Oct. 19-29 in Orlando, Fla. Harjo, 71, was on a bowling team this summer that placed second in the Native American National Classic.

  • Youth Hockey: Jeff Frye of Lawrence is hoping to form a winter youth ice hockey team for the 1999-2000 winter season. For information, call Frye at 832-8357.

  • Hoffman Notches Ace: Andy Hoffman of Lawrence used an eight-iron to record a hole-in-one on the par three, 140-yard No. 2 hole on Wednesday at Alvamar Country Club. Witnesses were Brian Schierling, Bill Cady, Lou Lienemann and Jon Beougher.
