Intertribal powwow
set for this weekend
Topeka -- The ninth annual Lake Shawnee Intertribal Powwow will be held today through Sunday at Lake Shawnee in Topeka.
Activities begin this morning with an American Indian Education Day for invited area schoolchildren. The powwow will begin at 5 p.m. with the Blessing of the Grounds Ceremony by the Fire Eagle Boose family. Dancing will be held from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday and 12:30 p.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday.
This year the Shawnee County Allied Tribes will honor two elders, Mose Cahwee and Jan English. Princesses Linzie Chere'Mar Gigger of the Chickasaw Nation and Sydney Lauren Jessepe of the Cheyenne and Potawatomi nations will be present with other American Indian dignitaries.
