You can swim Monday at the Lawrence Aquatic Center, but don't expect to get your mail delivered.

Many government offices and public services in Douglas County will be shut down Monday in observance of Labor Day.

Douglas County offices will be closed; Douglas County District Court will not be in operation.

City offices also will be closed Monday, as will the Lawrence Public Library.

City residents are asked to put grass clippings out with their normal weekly trash pickup. City crews will not pick up lawn clippings Monday. No other changes are planned in sanitation route schedules next week, according to city officials.

The Lawrence Parks and Recreation brush collection site at 11th Street and Haskell Avenue will be open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday.

No Parks and Recreation adult or youth sports are scheduled for the Labor Day holiday weekend.

All city recreation centers -- the Community Building, Holcom Park Recreation Center and East Lawrence Recreation Center -- will be closed Monday. All activities are cancelled Monday at Lawrence Senior Center.

The city's Special Populations Coffee House for Monday has been rescheduled for Sept. 13.

Hours at the aquatic center will be 1:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday through Monday. Monday is the last day to swim at the center, 727 Ky.

Banks will be closed Labor Day. Lawrence Bus Co. buses will not run.

The post office won't deliver regular mail Monday, although Express Mail will be delivered. Mail pickup from collection boxes will be made according to schedules posted on the boxes.

The circulation department at the Journal-World will be open from 4:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Monday.

USA Today will not be delivered Labor Day.

Classes will not meet at Kansas University, where all libraries and buildings will be closed. With the exception of the Museum of Natural History, which is open from noon to 5 p.m. Monday, all KU museums will be closed.
