Lone Star Lake
will get repair
Douglas County commissioners approved at Wednesday night's meeting a $169,000 road repair and beach improvement at Lone Star Lake.
The asphalt road broke apart and slid toward the lake during heavy rains in October.
The repair work will be done by Foley Construction of Lecompton beginning Sept. 13. It should be ready by next summer's swimming season.
"I wish we could have had it open this season," said Dean Nieder, commission chairman. "It was a hot summer."
Nieder said the road and beach work along with spillway work being planned should ensure the lake is again a great place to spend a sunny Saturday.
"It's really an attractive lake and a very popular spot for everybody," Nieder said.
County roads
get new label
Douglas County commissioners agreed with the Marion Township board and designated five road segments as "minimum maintenance" Wednesday.
The vote came over the objection of one man who lives next to one of the roads.
Don Signor told commissioners that the road past his property becomes impassible during heavy rains.
Signor was told by township officials that the road would be maintained. The minimum maintenance label simply protects the township from liability and allows officials to post warning signs.
The road segments declared minimum maintenance were:
- East 450 Road from North 600 Road to North 500 Road.
- East 500 Road from North 265 to North 200 Road.
- North 100 Road from East 660 Road to East 730 Road.
- North 850 Road from East 248 Road to East 300 Road.
- East 200 Road from North 300 Road to North 400 Road.
