CONSUMING MASS QUANTITIES
The numbers and amounts of food products involved in feeding students in the Lawrence school district are mind blowing.
Here are a few figures to consider:
Last year, the district's students consumed 689,200 cartons of chocolate skim milk, as well as 236,550 cartons of 2 percent white milk.
They spooned down 415 cases of dry cereal.
They crunched 10,000 pounds of carrot sticks, speared 350 cases of pineapple tidbits and plucked 12,400 pounds of red seedless grapes.
The cooks used 17,000 pounds of shredded cheese (American, mozzarella and Cheddar) and baked 18,300 dozen cookies (peanut butter, chocolate chip, sugar and snickerdoodle).
And it's pretty clear, judging from the numbers, which entrees students like.
Last year, they gobbled up 75,000 servings of chicken nuggets, as well as 121,000 slices of pepperoni, cheese and hamburger pizza.
