Downtown intersections along Ninth Street should be open -- for good -- by mid-morning today.
Intersections at Vermont, Massachusetts and New Hampshire were opened temporarily last week after being closed for several weeks this summer for a utility replacement project. Those intersections were closed again Monday for final road repairs.
Construction crews began laying new pavement on Ninth Street around 6 p.m. Tuesday and were to continue working through the night to minimize the impact on daytime traffic.
With the downtown phase of the project complete, the project of replacing a sanitary sewer line now moves east.
Lawrence city officials say traffic along Connecticut Street from Eighth Street to 13th Street, and along Eighth from Connecticut east to the railroad tracks, will be affected by construction through the end of the year.
The city says it will notify area residents and schools about restricted and limited parking as the work progresses.
