Saathoffs third

Shawn Saathoff of Lawrence and Bob Saathoff of Topeka teamed to place third at the Jackpot Buddy Tournament Series' championship tourney at Smithville Lake, Mo. The Saathoffs caught only four bass, which weighed a total of 12 pounds.

Davis wins LSB meet

Lawrence's Sunflower Bassmasters staged their championship tournament at Stockton Lake on Oct. 16-17. And Kevin Davis won the championship by using a spinnerbait and working the back of small creeks and coves littered with gizzard shad. Jerry Benjamin finished second, and Jason Benjamin was third.

Blooms co-winners

Pearl Bloom and Myriam Bloom, both of Lawrence, were co-winners of the 11-to-14-year-old bracket at the Crown Kids Casting Club contest. Justin Saathoff and Jacob Ryan, both of Lawrence, were co-winners of the seven-to-10-year-old bracket. The four winners will compete at the state casting contest next February in Wichita.

Collins poster

An 18 x 24 poster entitled Venomous Snakes of Kansas, painted by Lawrence artist Suzanne Collins, is available free from the Kansas Biological Survey on the Kansas University west campus. Copies must be picked up. There is no mail or delivery service.
