J-W Staff Reports

Two community meetings will be held this month to get public input about how the city's new fixed-route bus system can serve the needs of people with disabilities.

The meetings are designed to make sure the new bus system will comply with the federal Americans with Disabilities Act, or ADA.

The information will be compiled for the Public Transit Advisory Committee that eventually will make recommendations to the Lawrence City Commission.

The first meeting will be Monday, Oct. 25, in the main conference room at Independence Inc., 2001 Haskell. The second will be Tuesday, Oct. 26, at the Lawrence Public Library auditorium, 707 Vt.

Both meetings are from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. People may come by anytime during those hours. City staff and transit consultants from K.A. Associates will be on hand to answer questions and provide information.

People unable to attend the meetings may send written comments to Aaron Bartlett, city transportation planner, Lawrence-Douglas County Planning Department, City Hall, P.O. Box 708, Lawrence 66044.

The deadline for written comments is Oct. 26.
