Olathe Free State High's volleyball team wrapped up its second straight Sunflower League championship on Thursday.
The Firebirds improved to 11-0 in the league for the second straight year -- not losing a game in league play -- by dumping SM West 15-8, 15-3 and Olathe South 15-12, 15-11 at the Olathe South Invitational.
FSHS also lost to BV Northwest 12-15, 7-15.
"They were happy to defend it. One of their goals was to win it without losing a league game and we accomplished that," Firebird coach Nancy Hopkins said.
On Thursday, Joyia Chadwick had 12 blocks against SM West. Erin Wyatt had a strong night serving and Sarah Graves hitting and blocking.
"It was a good outing. We were kind of lethargic at times," Hopkins said. "We lost to Blue Valley Northwest but it's the best we played all night."
Now 21-6 overall, Free State will meet Topeka West and Shawnee Heights in a 6 p.m. triangular Tuesday at FSHS. Fans are asked to bring a can of soup.
