Larson, Chatfield Win: Caleb Chatfield was the overall male winner and Erica Larson the fastest female in last Sunday's nine-mile Sand Rat Trail Run along the Kansas River. Steve Riley and Marge Hickman were the overall masters winners.

Boeck Division Champ: Lawrence's Dee Boeck won the women's 50-54 division of the Avon 10K Run last Sunday in Kansas City, Mo., in a time of 44:43. Lawrence's Carol McFall finished eighth overall with a 38:51 clocking.

  • Baldwin Native Honored: Baldwin native Steve Robertson, head baseball coach at Kansas City, Mo., Grandview, was named coach of the year in a five-state region and will be feted at the American Baseball Coaches Association convention next January in Chicago.

  • County Tennis Tourney Set: Entries are being accepted for the Douglas County Closed tennis tournament on Oct. 16-17 at the Lawrence Tennis Center. Entry deadline is 5 p.m. next Tuesday. Draws will be posted a week from today at Francis Sports and Alvamar Racquet Club. For information, call 843-4686.

  • Heitzman Wins: Paul Heitzman of Eudora won ages 65-69 division of the Run to Read 8K last Saturday in Tulsa, Okla. Heitzman's time for 32:41.

  • Long Drive Qualifier: Randy Tangmo of Lawrence qualified for the National Long Drivers Association tournament on Oct. 20-23 in Mesquite, Nev., by hitting a 385-yard drive at a qualifying tourney on Monday in Lincoln, Neb. Tangmo, 36, runs the Launching Pad, a driving range in Eudora.
