Analysts said they saw little prospect of substantial increases in automotive sales for the coming year, and companies were showing concern over trends in their phase of the economy. Inflation and rising interest rates were wreaking havoc in many sectors of the economy.

A geological study for the proposed new Kansas River bridge in Lawrence noted some problems at the site but said they would not cause any substantial revisions in the estimated cost of about $4 million for the project.
