CHAMPAIGN, ILL. The Kansas University swimming and diving teams competed in the first day of the Dual Meet Extravaganza Friday at the University of Illinois.
The KU women's team defeated North Texas 119-59, while the Jayhawk men lost a pair of close duals to Missouri and Southern Illinois-Carbondale.
KU's women (1-0) claimed the top two places in six of the first seven events. Senior Kerri Pribyl won the 1-meter diving event with a score of 233.85. Teammates Rebecca McFall and Kristie Miseka finished second and third, respectively.
Other Kansas winners included Gwen Haley (200 freestyle), Carolyn Grevers (200 individual medley), Carolyn Horwitz (50 freestyle) Julie Ottmar (100 backstroke) and Kelly Brock (100 breaststroke).
In the men's duals, Missouri defeated KU 81-69, and SIU-Carbondale beat the Jayhawks 76-71.
