Twins Ryan Murphy and Brian Murphy both scored on touchdown runs Sunday at Haskell Stadium as the Hurricanes capped an unbeaten season with a 16-14 victory over the Trojans in the A division of the Toy Bowl.
In the sixth-grade game, Ryan Murphy scored on a seven-yard TD run and added a two-point conversion run. After Brian Murphy scored on a 59-yard run, Ryan Murphy added another two-point run for a 16-0 lead.
The Trojans rallied, scoring all 14 of their points in less than a minute late in the third quarter. Mike Herschell scored on a 53-yard run, but the Trojans' two-point conversion attempt failed. The Trojans recovered an on-side kick, however, and Nathan Hickey scored on a 39-yard pass from Dylan McGregor.
Cliff Hadl of the Hurricanes was named A coach of the year.
South 16, Southwest 14
Brett Courtney scored on a 60-yard run, and Bradley Russell added a 40-yard run for the South Golden Eagles in the seventh-grade game.
Southwest scored on a 68-yard run by Nick Witmer, and Danny Pike recovered a blocked punt in the end zone for the Grizzlies.
South's Willie Brown was named seventh-grade coach of the year.
Trojans 6, Hurricanes 0
Nate Padia scored the B game's only points on a 90-yard punt return.
Mark Ice of the Hurricanes was named coach of the year for the B division, which is for players in grades three through five.
