Rotary clubs seeking
The Rotary clubs of Lawrence are interviewing local students interested in attending secondary school abroad for a year as part of an international student exchange program.
The deadline for applications is Monday, Nov. 15, and club interviews will be completed by Dec. 15. The District Rotary Committee will conduct final interviews Jan. 8, 2000.
Students accepted into the program will be notified in mid-January and will begin the program in August.
To qualify, a student must be between the ages of 15 and 18, in the top third of his or her academic class, in good physical health and willing to be a good ambassador.
The student or the student's family is expected to pay travel and insurance costs as well as provide some spending and emergency money. Room, board and schooling are provided by the host Rotary club and family.
The Rotary clubs of Lawrence are also seeking families to serve as host parents to foreign students. For more information, call Galen Van Blaricum at 843-4714.
