On Nov. 3, 1899, the Lawrence World, on the occasion of the arrival in the city of the Company H of the 20th Kansas, editorialized "The boys of Company H are once more on their native heath. The past year has been a hard one for them and it has also been a glorious one. It has been crowded with events until they jostle each other." Never has a regiment come home as these boys have come. Never has there been such another welcome extended. Business was forgotten, everything was forgotten but the one desire to do honor to the brave boys who carried our flag triumphantly into a new world." This morning was a patriotic love feast in which everybody participated. It was simply glorious."
