Lawrence Optimist

named governor

Ralph W. Clement, a 20-year member of the Optimist Club of Lawrence, has assumed duties as governor of the Kansas District Optimist.

Clement is the first Lawrence Optimist to serve as governor as a member of the Lawrence club. He is a hydrologist with the U.S. Geological Survey and moved to Lawrence in 1978 from Albequerque, N.M.

The Optimist Club's purpose is to give service to others, especially the youth of its community.

MOMS club

to have meeting

The MOMS club of Lawrence will have its monthly business meeting at 10 a.m. Thursday at Central United Methodist Church.

The group will discuss its holiday plans and its activity groups, including playgroups, a monthly MOMS Night Out and a baby-sitting co-op.

MOMS Club is a national support group for stay-at-home mothers, including those with home-based businesses or jobs at night.
