— Graveside services for Noel Griffin, 87, Hesper, will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Deay Cemetery in Douglas County.

Mr. Griffin died Saturday, May 29, 1999, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.

He was born Nov. 1, 1911, in Eudora, the son of Albert and Tressa (Deay) Griffin.

Mr. Griffin ran a threshing machine, worked for Sinclair Pumping Station, cut lumber and made furniture. In 1941, he purchased a McCormick-Deering No. 15 wire tie pickup baler and did custom baling in the area, supplying jobs for area youths. He had also worked for the Eudora Township, and he built and repaired many homes in the area. In the fall of 1958 he began volunteer work and invented a cutter for gauze for cancer patients. It was used in the Douglas County area for 20 years.

He married Wilma Edna Brecheisen in 1935 in Iola. She survives of the home.

Other survivors include two daughters, Edna Jewett, Lawrence, and Tressa Stone, Spring Hill; seven grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.

Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday and Tuesday at Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home.

The family suggests memorials to the Douglas County Visiting Nurses Assn. or Hesper Friends Church, sent in care of the funeral home.
