Meeting today explains

service center concept

A public meeting to discuss the concept of a neighborhood service center is scheduled for 7 p.m. today at East Heights School, 1430 Haskell.

Representatives from several public service agencies -- including Lawrence Parks and Recreation, Lawrence Housing Authority, Boys and Girls Club, East Heights School, Pelathe Community Resource Center and 21st Century Community Learning Center -- will be available to answer questions and receive comments.

Child care will be provided by Lawrence Parks and Recreation.

"People are encouraged to come out and discuss the ideas they have about their neighborhood as well as learn about the services offered by these public agencies," said Fred DeVictor, the city's director of parks and recreation.

The meeting will be an opportunity for the agencies to receive input on neighborhood needs, use of services and participant involvement.

The neighborhood service center concept can be described as all agencies working in coordination to provide programs and services.
