A Lawrence teen-ager continues to capture the media spotlight, with an article in a national magazine and another network television appearance upcoming.

Look for an article about Alyssa Buecker, a filmmaker who has made a series starring her pet guinea pigs, in the May 24 issue of People Magazine. In June, "The Tonight Show" is flying Alyssa and her parents, Nancy Pistorius and Brad Buecker, to California so that Alyssa can make a guest appearance on the show.

Alyssa is planning to spend the entire month of July in East Hampton, N.Y., at a Producers Camp (Stephen Spielberg's children will be fellow campers), for which she received a full merit-based scholarship. HBO is paying for her airfare to New York and scheduling media interviews for her in New York City when she arrives.

Alyssa, whose guinea pig movies have landed her a contract with the HBO Family Channel, already has appeared on NBC's "Today" show.

The Journal-World chronicled Alyssa's tale in a Jan. 28 story in its arts and entertainment magazine, The Mag. That story subsequently was picked up by the Associated Press and has run in The Topeka Capital-Journal, Olathe Daily News, Iola Register, Hays Daily News and Chanute Tribune in Kansas, and the Joplin Globe and Blue Springs Examiner in Missouri.

Alyssa has been featured on programs produced by KSNT, KCTV and KSHB television stations and KMXV-FM 93.3 radio station.
