Olathe -- Lawrence High continues to cruise.

The Lions swept Olathe East, 14-3 and 12-1, in high school baseball on Monday at Olathe District Activities Center to extend their winning streak to nine games.

"We're on a little tear right now," said LHS coach Dirk Wedd, whose team collected 29 hits and committed no errors while improving its record to 10-2. "We're putting it all together."

LHS junior Curtis Ledbetter led the offensive barrage in the first game when the Lions bashed 17 hits. He doubled four times and had five RBIs. Also in the first game, LHS junior Jon Murray went 3-for-4 with a home run. Nolan Samuels contributed a homer.

The Lions scored three runs in the top of the fifth inning and seven in the sixth to seal the opener. Lenny Ferrington tossed a four-hitter with four strikeouts and was the winning pitcher. Olathe East (5-7) scored all three of its runs in the second inning.

"It was windy and tough for him to control his fastball and curveball," Wedd said. "Then he found a groove and we supported him offensively and defensively."

In the second game, LHS senior Riley Scott tossed a three-hitter and had five strikeouts for the victory.

"He did a good job keeping the ball in play," Wedd said. "And we got some clutch hitting with two-out hits."

Lawrence's Ryan Phelps went 3-for-3 with a homer in the second game. Samuels and Dustin Myers both went 3-for-4.

For the doubleheader, Myers was 6-for-8 with a homer, triple, double and had three RBIs.

Next for LHS is a makeup doubleheader against Olathe North at 4:15 p.m. today at Ice Field.
