Overbrook -- Services for William Wilson Karnes, 85, rural Overbrook, will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Overbrook United Methodist Church. Burial will follow in Overbrook Cemetery.

Mr. Karnes died Friday, April 30, 1999, at the home of a daughter near Overbrook.

He was born May 21, 1913, near Overbrook, the son of William Fredrick and Elsie Bell Branson Karnes. He was a retired farmer/stockman and a lifetime resident of the Overbrook area.

He graduated from Michigan Valley High School in 1931.

Mr. Karnes was a member of the Overbrook United Methodist Church, a former director of the First Security Bank of Overbrook, a charter director of the Carbondale State Bank and a director of the Overbrook Farmers Union Cooperative.

He served on the boards of education for Ridgeway Grade School and Overbrook High School. He also served on the Osage County Extension Board and the Osage County ASC Committee. He had been a leader for the North Osage 4-H Club, a member of the Overbrook Fair Board and a member of the Kansas Odd Fellows Oakland Lodge No. 640.

He married Helen Maxine Desque on Oct. 2, 1940, at Overbrook. She survives of the home.

Other survivors include two daughters, Karen Stahel, Overbrook, and Joyce James, Carrollton, Tex.; a brother, Marshall, Overbrook; three grandchildren; and a great-grandson.

Friends may call from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday at Greenwood-Roberts-Heise funeral home, Overbrook, where family will meet friends from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday.

The family suggests memorials to the Osage Fire District No. 4, Emergency Medical Services or the Parkinsons Foundation, sent in care of the funeral home, 730 Western Heights Dr., Overbrook 66524; or to the United Methodist Church, sent in care of First Security Bank, Overbrook.
