— Lawrence High pounded out 20 runs and 22 hits in claiming a twinbill baseball sweep of Shawnee Mission West on Saturday at Johnson County 3&2.

But darned if LHS coach Dirk Wedd couldn't help but praise his two starting pitchers after the Lions improved to 8-2 on the season with the 9-1 and 11-5 wins over the Vikings.

Matt Wiedeman went the distance in Game One, scattering eight hits and striking out five while improving to 3-0. Jon Murray (1-0) collected his first victory of the year in Game Two, surrendering just three hits while fanning eight.

"Both of our guys threw tremendous," Wedd said. "Wiedes had outstanding stuff.

"And Jon's had tough luck. He's thrown good all year, but he finally got himself a win today."

Curtis Ledbetter paced the Lions offensively, going 3-for-3 with two RBIs in the opener and slugging a pair of home runs on the day. Dustin Myers went 2-for-3 with three RBIs in Game One and doubled in the nightcap, while Riley Scott finished the day 5-for-8 with five RBIs.

"We had good pitching, excellent defense and timely hitting," Wedd said. "You put all three of those things together and you're going to have pretty good results, and today that meant a sweep of a pretty good baseball team."

The Lions will play at Olathe East on Monday.
