Club taking

orders for daffodils

Gardeners who didn't get enough of the daffodil display in March might want to start planning for next year's show. The Daffodil Club is taking orders for bulbs to be delivered in the fall.

The deadline for each $5 order is June 1. Orders are sent to daffodil breeders Grant E. Mitsch Novelty Daffodils, which selects bulbs, including sometimes unnamed experimental varieties, and ships them to arrive in October. Each order, estimated to be a $9-10 value, includes a variety of bulbs -- no two are the same. Buyers who wish can add a dollar to support daffodil planting in city green spaces. To place an order contact Mary Lou Wright, 843-0008, Daffodil Club treasurer.

Flower walk goes wild

People who are wild about wildflowers will want to set this date aside.

The Johnson County chapter of the Kansas Wildflower Society will sponsor a flower walk at 8:30 a.m. Saturday at The Prairie Center, West 135th Street and Cedar Niles Road in Olathe. Spring prairie flowers and some woodland species will be the focus for the morning walk. The free outing will be led by Isabel Rohrer. Participants should have footwear appropriate for grassy, and possibly wet, trails. For information, call (913) 677-4571 or (913) 262-3506.
