Local, regional artists
to fill South Park today
Art, music and jumping dogs will fill South Park today as more than 70 local and regional artists gather for the 38th annual Art in the Park festival.
From noon to 5 p.m., potters, painters, sculptors, metalsmiths, photographers and other artists will display their art in the park. Some artists will demonstrate how they create their pieces.
Four Lawrence bands -- the Lawrence City Band, Busy Signals, Robby Mount Joy and New World Gypsies -- will perform during the afternoon.
The Alpo Canine Frisbee Disc Championship will start at 2 p.m. on the west side of the park. Children's activities include a petting zoo with Lucky the Llama and other barnyard animals. The Lawrence Arts Center will have supervised drawing stations where children can make take-home art of the animals.
