Former Ottawa officer
convicted of DUI
A former Ottawa police officer was convicted March 9 of driving under the influence of alcohol in a Nov. 30 traffic accident.
Matthew Honas, 26, will serve six months' probation and complete 100 hours of community service after he pleaded no contest to the misdemeanor DUI charge in Franklin County District Court.
District Magistrate Edwin Smith ordered Honas to complete the community service instead of serving 48 hours in jail often required in first-time DUI convictions.
Honas has resigned from the Ottawa Police Department, Chief Jeff Herrman told the Ottawa Herald.
