To the editor:
I have followed with great sadness the story of 16 year-old Misty Taylor, the young woman who was shot and killed near Lecompton. My heart goes out to her family and friends. I must, however, take issue with the Journal-World for continuing to refer to her death as a "hunting" accident. What those two men were doing was not hunting. They were driving around at night, using a spotlight, in an attempt to see and then poach deer. These men should be called what they are -- "poachers." A hunter, on the other hand, is a law-abiding citizen who possesses proper ethics, safety-instruction training, licensing and knowledge of local game laws. The men involved in this tragic accident obviously do not fit this profile. For the Journal-World to lump honest and ethical hunters into a category with these two poachers, does us all a great injustice.
