Homeless Sleepout

raises money, awareness

The Center for Community Outreach will have a Homeless Sleepout from 8 p.m. Friday, April 7, to 6:30 a.m. Saturday, April 8, at Burcham Park, Second and Indiana streets.

The event will challenge Kansas University students and Lawrence residents to brave the elements for one night to help raise money and awareness to combat homeless issues in Lawrence.

Participants will secure sponsorship in the form of pledges, and each individual must raise at least $10 to participate. Pledge packets can be picked up at the CCO office, 426 Kansas Union, and money should be turned in the night of the sleepout.

All proceeds will benefit Jubilee Cafe, a restaurant-style food kitchen that serves free breakfasts to Lawrence's homeless and needy residents two mornings each week. Last year's sleepout raised more than $1,800 for the cafe.
