The Douglas County chapter of the American Red Cross is recruiting area residents to do unusual tasks to draw attention to the organization.

Some of those who will be involved in the event include:

  • KU basketball coach Roy Williams will sack groceries at Hy-Vee, 3504 Clinton Pkwy, from 2:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
  • University National Bank President Todd Sutherland will shine shoes from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. March 11 in the lobby of his bank, 1400 Kasold.
  • Downtown Lawrence Inc. director Marcia McFarlane will be a crossing guard from 10 a.m. to noon March 13 in the 800 and 900 blocks of Massachusetts Street.
  • Kansas University Chancellor Robert Hemenway and Athletics Director Bob Frederick will sell lemonade from 10 a.m. to noon March 15 in front of Strong Hall.
  • Clinton Parkway Animal Hospital veterinarian Gary Olson will dress up as a dog on March 16.
  • KU football coach Terry Allen and former KU football All-American John Hadl will serve coffee from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. March 18 at Milton's, 920 Mass.
