Inflation was badly disrupting state-funded construction projects at Kansas regents schools and posed a serious threat to the plans for the proposed new $4.9 million law school building at Kansas University. The regents already had encountered costs that were 10 to 20 percent above the funds available and were fearful the situation might get steadily worse. All state campuses were being adversely affected by the economic climate.

The Lawrence school district received a $20,000 grant to develop and implement programs for the special needs of its 180 Native American students.
