Land gift to benefit
KU medical school
Two hundred acres of farmland near Medicine Lodge have been donated to Kansas University for the benefit of the school of medicine.
The late Dr. William Benefiel and Phyllis Benefiel of La Canada, Calif., both graduates of KU, stipulated that the $57,500 gift contribute to improvement of teaching and educational opportunities of medical students.
William Benefiel earned a bachelor's degree in 1944 and medical degree in 1947, both from KU. In 1970, he started a private practice specializing in oncology and internal medicine. He retired in 1989 and died recently.
In 1945, he married Phyllis Wickert, who received a KU bachelor's degree in 1944.
