Motorcyclist flown to hospital after accident
A motorcyclist was flown Saturday night to Overland Park Regional Medical Center after losing control of his motorcycle just outside of Baldwin.
A nursing supervisor at the hospital said he was in fair condition late Saturday.
Lawrence-Douglas County Fire & Medical Battalion Chief Rob Kort said that Leroy Kirkland was flown from the scene of the accident, just north of Baldwin on County Road 1055, by Life Net helicopter.
Kort said Kirkland was riding north on 1055 when he lost control of his motorcycle and went off the road into the ditch around 9:28 p.m. His motorcycle landed 20 yard away from him, down a slope. He was not wearing a helmet.
Two friends, also riding motorcycles, were following Kirkland. They returned to Baldwin and called for help.
The Douglas County Sheriff's Department was still investigating the accident late Saturday night.
