Marian E. Washington, a graduate student and assistant instructor in physical education at Kansas University was named assistant director of intercollegiate athletics focusing on women's sports at KU. She was also expected to continue her duties in the field of basketball coaching. She was to work closely with athletics director Clyde Walker in operations the women's program here.

The evidence was that well-organized neighborhood groups, aided by federal revenue-sharing funds, would become a prominent force in city affairs.

Sherlyn Sampson announced she would seek the Democratic nomination for the Douglas County District Court clerk's post. Ruth Vervynck announced her intention to seek the Democratic nomination for county treasurer. Incumbent 44th District State Rep. Mike Glover announced his candidacy for a second term on the Democratic ticket.
