Bandits place third

at Ottawa tourney

Ottawa -- Lawrence's Bandits beat Blue Valley and lost to Olathe South in a pair of 14-4 decisions on Sunday at the Ottawa Tournament. The Bandits placed third of 12 American Legion teams.

Troy Wingert slammed three hits, while Josh Williamson and Jake Neu had two hits apiece for the Bandits. Rob Scott had three hits, while Neu had two versus Olathe South. Wingert had a hit and three RBIs for the Bandits, 27-10.

Dobbins second

at World meet

Lawrence triathlete Liz Dobbins placed second in her age division on Saturday at the International Triathlon Union Long Distance World Championship in Sater, Sweden.

Dobbins, 46, was second in the 45-49 age category with an 8-hour, 6-minute time. She finished the 2 1/2-mile swim in 1:10.32, the 75-mile bike ride in 4:13.08 and the 18-mile run in 2:42.20.

Valerie Gattis of the United States won the 45-49 age division in 8:00.47.
